Our first concert was presented at First United Methodist Church in Newnan, and the original membership of the ensemble represented a great diversity in vocation as well as inclusivity from across our vast country.
We are an all-volunteer chorale selected by audition and offer performances covering the entire range of prominent choral literature. Within our short history, Masterworks has participated in significant events both locally and beyond.
We could not have been more excited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Masterworks than we were at our concerts during the Spring of 2023. You may remember that in March 2020, due to COVID, live music came to an abrupt halt. While Masterworks experienced a pause in live music during this time, in September 2020, Masterworks instituted virtual rehearsals. We then continued to innovate and instituted voluntary small group rehearsals while following appropriate guidelines. These efforts helped to enable our first post-COVID live performance to a nearly sold-out audience in the Black Box Theatre at the Donald W. Nixon Centre.
Fast forward to the spring of 2022, Masterworks hosted one of the most inspirational performances in its history – Masterworks Cares! This concert benefitted the Newnan High School Fine Arts Chorale Department to assist with rebuilding due to the devastation experienced during the tornado that swept through Newnan & the surrounding area in 2021. Eight percent of the event’s admissions, plus additional contributions, enabled Masterworks to provide more than $4,000 to NHS’s Fine Arts Chorale Department. This event brought together five decades of voices from Newnan High School and produced an afternoon of music that will be remembered by all in attendance for a very long time.
